Custom Built Motorcycles
Custom built motorcycles take a very long time to complete, first you have to come up with a brief outline of how the frame of your motorcycle will be. If you are an motorcycle engineer then this can be a very rewarding process as you no doubt will have many designs running through your head but, if motorcycle engineering is not your thing then i would suggest that you outsource it to a pro, if you attempt the frame building yourself without full knowledge of what you are doing, it will be like hitting your head against a brick wall for months on end. Ok, so you have a frame in mind, what next? Well, i hope you have a lot of money to spare because building custom made motorcycles can run into thousands of dollars but, the rewards of a full custom motorcycle on your driveway will outway the money side. You can go into different directions on what comes next, is it the engine that will excite you? the exhaust system? the fuel tank? and so on. I would suggest that you take your time and look for the engine itself first as this will need to fit the space that you have left for it in the frame (obviously). Is there a certain cc engine that you are looking for? 500cc maybe? 1000cc? You could do a search in google for motorcycle engines and come up with a fantastic designed pre-made engine that can fit your frame no problem (this would be the easiest option) or you could get your local phone book and start ringing around garages that make custom built motorcycles for a certain engine that you have in mind. The same can be said for the other parts of the motorcycle that you require, a quick google search will throw up many options for you. The best thing to do is research, research and more research, custom built motorcycles are not built in a day, its a very long drawn out process and you want to get it absolutely spot on (they can be very dangerous things if not built right). Here are a few things you may want to look into when considering making a custom built motorcycle.... - Covello Rods - Ross Pistons - Red Shift Cams / 729 Lift - 260 Duration - Hyperformance Heads 3 3/16" Bore - Twin S&S G Carbs 2 3/16" Bore - STD Dual Carbs (Note: Carb setup may change while development continues on the build of the bike) - 14 - 1 Compression - Daytona Twin Tech Ignition - S&S Flywheels - Bandit Clutch - MRE Air Shifter - Stage 2 Clutch - Zippers Pro Oil Pump - PM Wheels & Brakes - Runs on 108 Octane Racing Gas - 4 Step Exhaust Pipes - ART Grips & Controls - Dual Throttle Cables - Ignition Turn-off - 2 Toggle Switches These custom mods were taken from a live ebay ad, advertising a Custom Built Harley Davidson Drag Bike. Like i said, there are many ways that you can go about building a custom built motorcycle but i think that if you are really set on getting a custom built motorcycle but you have not got the time/money for such a task then maybe you can think about buying one instead. There is a fantastic resource on buying custom built motorcycles listed with this intel and i would strongly suggest taking a closer look at what is offered there. For now, take it easy and ride safely. Mark |
